Blueberry River First Nations (BRFN) has a fantastic opportunity for a FULL TIME Brighter Futures Worker. Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the Brighter Futures Worker will work cooperatively and collaboratively with the Director of Community Services to plan, facilitate and evaluate recreational, social and cultural activities for community members. Programming will emphasize and recognize both Beaver and Cree traditional values and culture which promote and encourage members to adopt a healthy lifestyle and make healthy choices. Age appropriate activities will be planned to meet the needs of the specific target groups.


  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma or GED
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check according to the Criminal Record Review Act, Ministry of Public Safety and the Solicitor General
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers’ Licence and access to own vehicle with a willingness to attain a Class 4 unrestricted license
  • Previous experience with the coordination of recreational activities, event planning and a proven ability to recruit volunteers
  • Valid Basic First Aid and Food Safe Certificate or willingness to attain
  • Maintain professional conduct within the community, portraying high personal standards and role modeling, reflective of the nature of the Brighter Futures Program

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Beaver and Cree cultures and health issues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and problem solving particularly with children and youth
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work on weekends and some holidays
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment and proven ability to work alone
  • Knowledge of sports/leisure activities, cooking, baking, cultural arts and crafts with a proven ability to lead large community events for Halloween, Christmas break, Spring Break, Easter, Mother’s day to name a few
  • Basic computer skills ( word, excel, publisher, email) to create monthly calendars, newsletters

and general correspondence

  • Ability to creatively plan activities, establish priorities and meet deadlines
