Coastal GasLink – January 27, 2021 COVID-19 Project Update

In continued efforts to ensure you have timely information on the Coastal GasLink Project, I am reaching out with an important notification.

Coastal GasLink has been notified of two new positive cases of COVID-19 on the project over the past week:

  • One symptomatic worker tested positive in Work Package 2 (Construction Sections 3&4) and is currently in isolation and being monitored in Vanderhoof Lodge.
  • One symptomatic worker tested positive in Work Package 3 (Construction Section 5, 6 &7) and is currently in isolation and being monitored at 7 Mile Lodge.

On January 22nd, Northern Health announced that Medical Health Officers declared an end to the COVID-19 outbreak at two workforce accommodation sites on our project. Additional details from Northern Health Authority can be found on their website here. A public health order limiting the number of personnel permitted in January on site remains in effect and mobilization of additional people is subject to approval.

COVID-19 remains a public health risk across B.C. and whether at work or home, we all must continue to remain vigilant in adhering to public health guidelines and managing the risk to ourselves and others. At Coastal GasLink, nothing matters more than the health and safety of our workforce, their families and Indigenous and local communities. We continue to follow Dr. Bonnie Henry’s guidelines and have Infection Prevention and Control Plans in place at all worksites and lodges to help prevent further transmission.

Coastal GasLink hosted two online Zoom sessions over the past week specifically for our partner Indigenous communities with our independent medical expert Dr. Allan Holmes. Dr. Allan Holmes has been working with the Coastal GasLink, Northern Health Authority and the First Nations Health Authority since the outbreak was declared at two of the project’s workforce accommodations in December.

Thank you for those who attended and for those that missed the sessions Dr. Holmes presented the project’s COVID-19 management plan and answered all COVID related questions that communities had.  Taking into account feedback we received at these sessions, Coastal GasLink will continue to offer regularly scheduled sessions with Dr. Holmes in the future as a way of getting timely medical information and COVID-19 updates to you and your broader community. Invitations will be forthcoming.
