This upcoming camp is for youth ages 18-35
The Indigenous Education Department at NLC is proud to host our first Indigenous Youth Leadership Camp at the Sikanni River Ranch Aug 2nd-5th. This upcoming camp is for youth ages 18-35, and is intended to support, motivate, and teach how true leadership begins from within and is centered on giving back to community.
We’re fortunate to have two experienced Indigenous facilitators working with the participants in a variety of activities and workshops to encourage self confidence, purpose, and connection. Additionally, we hope to have two local Treaty Eight Elders with us to support the participants throughout the camp. This camp is free, and food and lodging are included. Please see the attached poster for further details.
This will be a drug and alcohol-free gathering, with each participant signing a commitment of respect for the weekend. We are arranging transportation from Dawson Creek and Fort St. John to the ranch. Travel support is also available for those coming from outside these areas.
For more information on registering community members for this amazing experience, please email me at mcalvert@nlc.bc.ca. You can also reach me on my cell at 1-250-219-5401 for further information.
We are unfortunately limited to 25 youth, and we’d like to provide opportunity for representation from as many local Indigenous communities as possible, so please let us know at your earliest convenience if your community has members who would like to take part. We’ll do our best to accommodate the requests on a first come first serve basis, knowing we’d ideally like to see three or four participants from each of the communities; if there is additional space, we’ll be happy to include more.
My apologies for not being able to host a great number of Indigenous youth and to Doig River First Nation for hosting this on the same dates as their rodeo.
Finally, I’ve included as many of my contacts as possible here, but please share this message out with your communities so we can fill the camp and make this as powerful an event as possible. Again, please reach out to me with any questions.
Maarsii,
